The movement of trains through Transdniester was stopped by the Moldovan Railways after Tiraspol blocked in March 2006 the railways and declared the segment Kuchurgan-Bender as its property. Answering to the actions of the Tiraspol regime, Moldovan Railways redirected its trains to Russia, Ukraine and other CIS countries through Mogilyiv-Podolsk, detouring Transdniester.
In the beginning of September, Ukraine stopped the movement of trains from Moldova, arguing that the Mogilyiv bridge requires repairs. In the same time, the Russian authorities started to insist on the necessity for the renewal of the passenger and goods communication through Transdniester. Presently, there is only a transit of goods through Transdniester. The taxes for transiting Transdniester by Russian, Ukrainian, Romanian and Kazakh cargo is being collected by a private transportation company, which belongs to the Transdniester party "Respublika".
